Manufactured Products

PlasTank

In 1996, Alberta gas production companies were searching for new ways to trim operating costs and increase equipment portability. As a result of this market need, the FloDrip® Wellhead Separator was developed and Crimtech's manufactured products department was born. The FloDrip® systems cost approximately one-third to one-half the price of conventional separator packages, which is a huge advantage for our clients.

Since then, Crimtech's product line has substantially diversified to fill new market needs and customized requests. Such products include gas and oilfield measurement equipment such as:

  • High Efficiency Separators
  • Conventional Separators
  • CBM Measurement Packages
  • Metering Skids
  • Oil Measurement Systems
  • PlasTankTM Storage Systems

Virtually all of Crimtech's products can be customized to suit our clients' applications. Separator packages are available in over-the-well, enclosed or walk-in building styles. Large custom products have always been a part of the fabrication department mix. This can now be further expanded with the relocation to their new 45,000 sq. ft. facility. The combination of a new facility with a proven design team now enables Crimtech to take on even larger jobs. Crimtech has been recognized as a company that our clients can bring problems or ideas to-and we will turn those problems into a commercial product.

Product Model Numbers

Crimtech uses model numbers for the following reasons:
  1. To communicate within the company and to our clients on the type of product being produced.
  2. As an engineering tool to control design parameters.
  3. As a control key in the processing of an order.

The format of model numbers varies depending on the product family being manufactured. Click here to learn how Crimtech describes each of the product families model numbering systems.

Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance isn't a department at Crimtech, it's a way of life.  It is embedded into each design and fabrication process we have.  The management of Crimtech is committed to providing superior service and a high quality product in every operation of the company.  By working together, employees, contractors and management can insure that our clients receive a quality product, every time.

Crimtech's Quality Assurance Program for the Fabrication department consists of three main elements; design integrity, quality control, and documentation.

Design Integrity

A good design leads to a quality product.  This starts with thoroughly understanding the wants and needs of our customer.  To accomplish this Crimtech uses 3-D drafting, or modeling to help our customers visualize what end product will look like.  Models can be e-mailed to the client who in turn can rotate it or section it to have real good look at what they are buying.  Changes are easily made at this time, reducing the number of change orders that might occur in the future.

Products can be designed to the customers engineering specifications or to Crimtech's Engineering & Construction Standards.

Before the design is complete, the model must under go a comprehensive design check.  Here it is checked for specification adherence, code compliance, constructability, ease of operation & maintenance, material availability, and HSE conformity.  Once the customer is satisfied with the design, and Bill of Materials is developed in the ERP system,  the procurement and fabrication process begins.  This is the first step in the fabrication quality control process.

Quality Control

Quality control is further broken down into four disciplines at Crimtech, pressure vessel & piping, structural steel, instrument control, and electrical.

Pressure Equipment

Crimtech is certified by the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) to fabricate pressure vessels and piping in Alberta.  Further to this, Crimtech is also certified with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to build category "U" pressure vessels.  Crimtech has held this certification since 1995 and has passed three ASME audits since.

Crimtech's Quality Control Supervisor is certified by ABSA to conduct our own welder qualification tests.  This ability quickly accelerates the schedule on larger projects.

Crimtech has a large selection of non-destructive examination (NDE) companies to draw from in Central Alberta.  This allows us to select a few preferred suppliers of this service resulting in no delays regardless of the customers requirements.  An on site "X-Ray Bunker" allows us shoot radiographs of piping and vessels without interrupting the rest of the operation.

A separate room is set-up to review the film with client or their representative.

Crimtech's pipefitting area is set-up to hydrostatically test piping, vessels, and tanks, quickly and efficiently.  A 200 barrel water storage tank feeds an elaborate pump system (designed and built in house).  Ingenuity like this helps to keep projects on schedule.

Structural Equipment

Crimtech is one of few oilfield fabrication shops that are certified to weld steel structures under the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB).  95% of our clients do not require this level of quality control for oilfield well site equipment, but at Crimtech it was an opportunity to improve ourselves under this association.  It is this commitment to quality that sets us apart from our competitors.

Instrumentation & Electrical Checks

Quality control travel sheets follow a job from start to finish and are the main tool in Crimtech's quality system.  A Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) travel sheet was the first form ever created at Crimtech.  The final step is an instrumentation and electrical check.  Every package is checked for function and ease of operation.  Fit and finish is also checked against Crimtech's tough standards.

Each package is pressured up with air so instruments and control valves can be checked including electrical switches.  Instrumentation and instrument tubing are checked for leaks.

Measurement, pressure, and temperature transmitters are calibrated, when requested, and communication to RTU's and PLC's verified.  RTU or PLC programs are tested for functionality.

Electrical systems can be checked from 12 to 600 volts.  All of Crimtech's units are built to CSA standards under our Electrical Quality Control program.  In some cases dielectric testing is conducted to ensure continuity.

Documentation

Crimtech provides complete traceability to each unit that we build.  Every unit has a unique Crimtech Serial Number (CSN) that we use to trace every drawing and document of that unit.  Our serial number database (inhouse developed program) tracks major components such as equipment, vessels, piping, and electronic flow meters to each CSN.  Clients receive a complete electronic quality control document or optional paper booklet when the unit is complete.

Crimtech has achieved the following certifications:

  1. COR Certification - Partnership in Health and Safety
  2. cert authAPEGGA Permit to Practice
  3. Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA)
    • Construct ASME Section VIII-1 Pressure Vessels
